Do 2020-onwards A3 Sportback and A3 Saloon share the same floor mats?

Yes for the front pair - both use the 8Y front footwell with the same twist-lock retention posts. Rear mats also share, though the Saloon’s rear footwell is fractionally deeper because of the different sill line, so a mat set moulded for the Sportback will still lie flat but may leave a small gap at the front edge in the Saloon.

Are Audi’s own OEM mats worth the premium over aftermarket TPE liners?

Audi’s carpet Premium mats hit the factory hook pattern exactly and look OE, but they are carpet - they absorb water rather than channel it. For UK winters, a moulded TPE liner with raised edges (WeatherTech, TuxMat, Gledring) contains slush better; keep the carpet Premium set for summer.

Do S line and RS 3 need different mats to Sport trim?

Front driver and passenger mats are the same across trims. S line adds sports seats with wider bolsters that do not touch the mat but change how the seat rails sit - a rear liner cut for the standard-height seat may need a light trim at the front lip on S line.

Does the TFSI e plug-in hybrid change what fits?

The rear floor sits ~30 mm higher on the TFSI e to clear packaging under the boot, but the passenger-cabin footwell is unchanged. Front and rear cabin mats fit the same as the ICE Sportback; boot-liner accessories are a separate purchase and do vary.

One thing many buyers miss

The A3’s driver-side floor uses a pair of round factory retention posts, not the twist-lock cams found on some VW-group cars. Universal mats with the wrong retention type either sit unclipped (and creep toward the pedals) or have unused holes that let debris through. Confirm the listing says “Audi A3 8Y” specifically, not just “Audi A3” - the outgoing 8V used a different post pitch.

How to check before ordering

• Look under your current driver’s mat and count the fixing points - two round posts is 8Y correct.
• Measure boot depth if you plan a matching boot liner: 380 L Sportback, 280 L on TFSI e, 425 L Saloon.
• Confirm the mat set includes both front posts and the rear liner is one piece, not two half-mats that gap in the middle.
