The current A3 (8Y, 2020-onwards) uses front seats with side-impact airbags in the outer bolsters across every trim. That is the single most important fit factor for a seat cover: it must be explicitly labelled airbag-compatible with a seam engineered to release under deployment force. A generic elastic-stretch cover with unbroken bolster fabric can prevent correct airbag deployment.
The A3’s trim variance matters for cover fit. Sport trim uses a moderately-bolstered seat that accepts universal semi-custom covers with side elastics. S line adds sports seats with pronounced side bolsters that pinch or bunch universal covers - a custom-fit S line-specific cover sits far cleaner. S3 and RS 3 seats are yet another shape (deeper bolsters, integrated headrests on some builds) that need model-specific covers.
The rear bench is 40/20/40 split on higher trims and 60/40 on entry. A rear cover set has to match the split - a bench cover cut for 60/40 leaves an unusable centre pull-through on a 40/20/40 seat. Confirm the split before ordering.
Frequently asked questions
Do S line covers fit Sport trim seats?
Physically they sit but the S line covers are cut for deeper bolsters, so they gape on the shallower Sport seat. Buy trim-specific.
Are integrated headrests a problem on any A3 seat?
Standard Sport and S line seats have removable headrests. RS 3 bucket seats (option code PS2) have integrated headrests - those need a specialist cover that skips a separate headrest wrap.
